Driver Ratings, India. Pt. 1 Ferrari, Force India and Hispania

30 Oct

Fernando Alonso: 7/10 Q3 F3

Proved he had speed by winning a battle against Mark Webber which lasted the whole race, but just couldn’t match Vettel and Button in a race that showed that Ferrari are the weakest of the big three.

Felipe Massa 6/10 Q6 F retired

Was at fault for the incident but didn’t deserve a penalty as the stewards decided Kamui didn’t deserve one for making Timo Glock spin when he rejoined the track. Hitting the kerb though, that was just plain stupid, he smashed the suspension yesterday during qualifying doing the same thing and he must have thought lightning couldn’t strike twice.

Adrian Sutil 7/10 Q9 F8

As his place at Force India looks less and less likely it took a great performance for Sutil to show he can still mix it up with the best. He performed well in qualifying making Q3 and had a long fight for 9th with Perez and Petrov which he eventually came out on top in.

Paul Di Resta 6/10 Q12 F13

Not Paul’s best weekend but it was a good achievement to finish 13th on quite a radical strategy, starting on hards and pitting 3 times, more than most. All in all another strong weekend by one of the biggest prospects in F1.

Narain Karthikeyan 5/10 Q23 F17

May have been loved by the fans but he was loathed by the driver as he was awful at being a back marker, something he was punished for after qualifying. An uneventful weekend but had the honour of being the only Indian driver at the inaugural Indian GP. The one talented thing he did was avoid the collision at the start.

Daniel Ricciardo 5/10 Q22 F18

How he finished behind Karthikeyan no one knows but it didn’t help his chances for a 2012 Toro Rosso seat whilst both of the current Toro Rosso drivers were on fire.
