Hamaya Practice Championship Standings after round 2

24 Mar

We’re round to the second week and both championships now have new leaders, although the fight is still between McLaren and Mercedes. Remember that this takes place in every practice session of the weekend and in each session the fastest driver picks up 8 points down to 1 point for the 8th fastest. Here are the standings after round 2:

  1. Lewis Hamilton                     McLaren                31                     (last week 2nd)
  2. Michael Schumacher           Mercedes                30                    (last week 1st)
  3. Nico Rosberg                         Mercedes                26                     ( last week 7th)

  10. Kimi Raikkonen                  Lotus                      7                         (last week -)
  11. Sergio Perez                         Sauber                    6                          (last week 9th)
  12. Daniel Ricciardo                 Toro Rosso          6                          (last week 12th)
  13. Kamui Kobayashi               Sauber                   4                          (last week 10th)
  14. Paul Di Resta                       Force India          4                          (last week 11th)
  15. Pastor Maldonado             Williams               4                          (last week 14th)
  16. Felipe Massa                       Ferrari                   2                          (last week 13th)
  17. Heikki Kovalainen            Caterham              1                           (last week 16th)
  18. Jean-Eric Vergne              Toro Rosso           1                            (last week -)

By going fastest in two sessions Hamilton has stolen the lead from Michael but there’s only 1 point in it. Both Ferraris have been really poor in practise so far only picking up 3 points between them and this weekend is set to be worse for them than the last. Up at the top of the standings places appear to be decided by what car you’re in.

  1. Mercedes                 56               (last week 2nd)
  2. McLaren                 53               (1st)
  3. Red Bull                  37               (4th)
  4. Lotus                       22               (7th)
  5. Ferrari                    15                (3rd)
  6. Force India           11                 (5th)
  7. Sauber                    10                (6th)
  8. Toro Rosso            7                  (8th)
  9. Williams               4                   (9th)
  10. Caterham              1                   (10th)

Despite having a strong car Williams haven’t been particularly  competitive so far this season, and Ferrari don’t either, they’re already 41 points behind new leaders Mercedes, who have overtaken McLaren. So far both fights seem to be just between McLaren and Mercedes.
