3 winners and losers of qualifying, Catalunya 12

12 May

It’s been a mixed up day of qualifying today and that’s left me in a very difficult decision of who makes the top 3 winners and losers.

Lewis Hamilton: the boy deserves credit 3 poles in 5 races and this one by a mammoth 0.5 seconds. He could lose the pole though for stopping on his in lap. A violation of a rule which was introduced due to Lewis doing this before.

Pastor Maldonado: Spain is a track where Pastor excels, even in last years Williams he still made it to Q3. But 2nd position in qualifying is an amazing achievement and if Lewis is found to have been violating rules then it will be Pastor’s first pole position, even better with team mate Bruno Senna only managing 14th.

Fernando Alonso: Quite simply the best driver around at the moment and with the Ferrari suddenly finding much needed pace the team should be proud and delighted for Fernando to qualify 3rd.

Jenson Button: You wouldn’t believe this was the same man who went fastest in FP2 yesterday. Today though was a different story and as of yet McLaren haven’t announced
what the technical problem on the car was.

Felipe Massa: on a day where Fernando qualified 3rd it was a very disappointing display by Felipe to manage a very poor 17th, the car can’t take the blame anymore so it doesn’t look good for Felipe.

Red Bull: Webber only managed 12th and Vettel didn’t go out in Q3 to set a time. Mark went out due to the team thinking he’d done well enough to get through to Q3, whilst I imagine Seb not setting a lap was a tactical thing to let him choose which tyres he starts on tomorrow.
