After 6.0 and a 5.8 on the richter scale earthquakes struck the northern region of Italy making 14,000 people homeless and halting work in the Ferrari factory for a day the team decided to hold an auction on Ferrari memorabilia to help out the survivors.

The auction has now closed and the team managed to raise €1.8 million (£1.45 million). A vast majority of this money was raised through the sale of a Ferrari 599XX which alone sold for €1.4 million. There were also some F1 related lots including a a nose cone from the 2009 Ferrari (which went for €23,000) and an engine from the 2008 Ferrari which went for €80,000.

The Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo was extremely thankful to everyone who made a bid and was shocked by how much was raised saying: “A pole position result: I knew I could count on the big-heartedness of the Ferraristi but they’ve still managed to surprise me once again. I would like to thank all the clients, collectors and enthusiasts that did their bit. Their bids have sent out a message of warmth and solidarity to the people in our region affected by this tragedy.”
