Driver Ratings, Europe 12, Pt.3, McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull

Lewis Hamilton: 7/10 Q2 F ret.

His race will be remembered for the collision on the penultimate lap but you have to remember Hamilton was poor all race, he started ridiculously slowly, and then McLaren gave him one of their customary poor pit stops – this time the first front jack didn’t do it’s job. Hamilton was 6th during the safety car period, but he charged up to 2nd before his aggressive style took it’s toll on the tyres and he became a sitting duck to Kimi Raikkonen before a collision with Maldonado ended his race.

Jenson Button: 5/10 Q9 F8

Things looked promising for him in FP3 but it didn’t last, qualifying wasn’t inspiring, and then the race was hardly points worthy. Without the retirements and Maldonado’s poor few laps Button would have been 12th.

Michael Schumacher: 9/10 Q12 F3

Dismal in qualifying only managing to start 12th and then having a drab start to the race, but in the second stint he started to piece together a potentially good finish. But it was only after the pit stop that Schumacher really started to perform, on fresher rubber he led a juggernaut with Webber, carving up the field to finish 3rd, completing an all – past and present- Ferrari podium. Schue’s first podium since Turkey 2006.

Sebastian Vettel: 10/10 Q1 F ret.

If anyone deserved more than they got this weekend it was Vettel. He was faultless in qualifying to take pole by o.3 seconds. And until his retirement on lap 33 due to an Alternator failure he had led every lap of the race, after sublime speed in the early stages of the race from the German.

Mark Webber: 9/10 Q19 F4

After a shocking performance in qualifying many viewers doubted he’d even make the points. But when the safety car came out Webber profited from fellow drivers pitting to be running 9th. Webber came out of his second pit stop in 13th, but joined the Schumacher juggernaut to charge up he field to 4th position.

Vettel is notoriously hard on his alternators, so can’t see that he deserves 10/10. Don’t make it a Red Bull fanzine!
