Fernando makes light work of the rain to take pole

7 Jul

3 winners and losers of qualifying, Britain 12.

Ferrari: remember at the start of the season when you’d need a calendar to measure Ferrari’s lap times? Well they’ve improved massively since and today not only did Alonso get his first pole since 2010 but Massa qualified 5th, a good day all round.

Michael Schumacher: Finished 3rd in Valencia and now he’s qualified 3rd at Silverstone. Suddenly the reunion tour appears to be going well for the seven time champion and maybe, just maybe he could win a race this year.

Nico Hulkenburg: Didn’t start the season looking impressive but Nico is improving race by race and made it to Q3 at Silverstone, a strong performance by the young German.

Jenson Button: Jenson this weekend will blame the rain for going out in Q1, but really Jenson was yet again poor. He’s really struggled this year and you wouldn’t believe he was world champion in 2009. Unless Jenson has a good race tomorrow I’d rule him out of the championship fight.

Sergio Perez: Was in P1 when rain stopped play but a disastrous decision not to go out after the rain not only saw him out in Q2 but out in 17th.

Nico Rosberg: 13th was all Nico could manage in qualifying whilst Schumacher took P3. Nico will have to drive much better tomorrow, but if it rains and there’s high attrition we could see Nico in P5 or above.
